MINOSA

The MINOSA Unit exploits iron ore mines in Hercules, Coahuila; La Perla, Chihuahua; and smaller deposits on the Pacific coast. The mineral of Hercules, located in the semi-desert region,

northwest of Coahuila and bordering with the state of Chihuahua, is the main source of supply of iron concentrate that AHMSA requires for the production of steel.

As its central core, the unit operates open pit and underground mines, whose concentrated product is sent to the steelworks in Monclova by means of a slurry ferroduct. At the same time, in the mine from Hercules, iron ore is sent from the La Perla deposit in Chihuahua, through an extension of the ferroduct, which measures a total of 295 kilometers, crosses the Coahuila semi-desert and takes advantage of the altitude difference between that zone and Monclova. Altogether, Hercules and La Perla, produce annually about 4 million metric tons of iron concentrate.
